The Bavarian Forest National Park celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Reason enough to honor the park with an illustrated book. Together with the wildlife photographer Alex Gomille (especially known for his wolf pictures) I presented this illustrated book about the Bavarian Forest National Park. Founded in 1970, this large protected area was the first of its kind in Germany. I myself have known the national park for three decades and have experienced the changes that have taken place since then. Especially the bark beetle has changed the face of the national park in the last decades. But as frightening as the dead “beetle forest” may look, it is the nursery of the natural forest of tomorrow.
